Daisies find 100 ways to give
Members of Marysville Girl Scout Daisy Troop #789 recently turned their Considerate and Caring ways into a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts! In honor of Girl Scouts' centennial anniversary, the troop collected 100 toys to donate to the Care Train of Union County.
Pam Klaus, executive director of the Care Train of Union County visited the girls to thank them and let them know how much their donations meant to the community. But the caring didn't stop there! The girls also recently donated 100 items to a local Personal Needs Pantry by hosting a personal hygiene items drive.
Now that's celebrating like it's 2012!

Girls "grow" their way to Bronze Award
Two members of Bucyrus Junior Girl Scout Troop #661 recently earned their Girl Scout Bronze Award and made new friends at Altercare of Bucyrus Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in the process. The girls assisted residents as they tended flowers and vegetables in a garden the girls helped establish there.
Before they got started, Sarah Lipscomb and Portia McKee met with Activities Director Sue Phillips to find out the residents’ interests and to develop a creative plan to meet their interests. After that the girls visited weekly to weed, and water in the summer heat. The girls learned even more about gardening as the residents taught them how to thin out certain vegetables.
The girls also purchased some hanging baskets of flowers for the outside patio and birdfeeders. In the process, Sarah and Portia made new friends at Altercare and invited their troop to meet the residents and participate in activities with them.
The girls also chose to receive their Bronze Award at the nursing home so the residents could be there to cheer them on.

Trio earns Red Sash of Merit
The Catholic Diocese of Columbus recently awarded Bailey Cadena, Emily Piña and Colleen Spahits of Columbus Girl Scout Senior Troop #1342 the 2011 Red Sash of Merit.
The Red Sash of Merit awards outstanding Catholic Girl Scouts in the Diocese of Columbus, usually high school students, who have already earned the Marian Medal. Girl Scouts who are awarded the Red Sash demonstrate leadership, accept responsibility, and are active in their troop, community, and parish.
The girls received their awards January 22 during the annual “Scout Day with the Bishop” event at Resurrection Parish in New Albany.

Girl Scouts in the Northwayne Service Unit, which includes Northwestern and Norwayne school districts, recently hosted a Blanket Drive/Party.
The girls brought blankets to the event to donate and also created 58 fleece blankets. The girls collected a total of 150 blankets and distributed them to five different outreach organizations to keep area residents warm during the chilly months!

Eleven girls in Grove City Girl Scout Junior Troop #2656 recently earned their Girl Scout Bronze Award by working with local nonprofit Touching Little Lives to make toys and blankets for babies born in Central Ohio hospitals.
The organization focuses on “touching the little lives” of needy premature and newborn infants in Ohio by providing necessities like handmade quilts, blankets, caps, booties, gowns, undershirts, afghans, bibs, sleepers, and other items.
