Limited funds are available for registered Girl Scouts who require financial assistance for Girl Scout essentials or to participate in Girl Scout program activities. Applications cannot be considered without being complete, including a reference statement for each registered girl.
To apply for financial assistance:
Girl or adult must be a registered member of Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland Council.
Application must be completed (all questions answered).
Application must be received in the Columbus office by the first Friday of the month (except July, August and
September) to be presented to the Financial Assistance Committee meeting that month.
Receipt of previous financial assistance may be considered in determining assistance.
Troop requests will not be considered.
No loans will be given.
An application for financial assistance for a specific event does NOT serve as an event registration.
Applications for destinations should be accompanied by a copy of the budget for the destination.
Limited funds are available. Apply early.
The Financial Assistance Committee reviews applications using the following priorities:
MEMBERSHIP
1. Girl is a registered member of the council.
2. Application meets published guidelines.
3. Multiple Girl Scouts in the family.
4. Individual girl (Juliette) member.
5. Participation in council product sales.
6. Number of time/total amount of assistance received by individual in one calendar year.
FINANCIAL NEED
1. Family income bracket.
2. Number of children in the family under age 18.
3. Number of family members in the household.
4. TANF eligible families, meeting federal guidelines; unemployment, other family income.
5. Narrative statement about the family situation.
PROGR AM
1. Individual Girl Scout related requests – National registration fee, “Girl Scout Essentials” (badge sash, council and GSUSA ID strips, troop numerals, membership pin). Also for adults, volunteer courses and workshop fees.
2. Girl Scout programs developed by Ohio’s Heartland Council. (Registration fee is payable to the council such as day camp, resident camp, Elam and LakeView Ranch programs).
3. Programs developed by entities other than Girls Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland such as COSI, destinations, and zoo programs.
Parents of applicants or troop leaders are notified of the committee’s decision in writing.
EXAMPLES OF ITEMS NOT COVERED BY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
1. Troop trips, troop dues, and troop sponsored program events.
2. Adult volunteer mileage.
